These images were discovered, not created. Each is a representation of 90 seconds of a German Expressionist film from the 1920s. The artist’s custom software renders only the motion occurring within the film. The resulting images make visible the hidden Modernist roots of the aesthetic sensibility of directors Murnau, Lang, Pabst. By a slight digital intervention, these films are revealed to contain Cubist multiple perspectives, Futurist dynamism, the metaphysical landscapes of Caspar David Friedrich, and the grotesque fantasies of Hieronymus Bosch
